Chitrakoot on high alert as Mandakini river swells

Rising water levels in the Mandakini River have triggered flood-like conditions in several parts of Chitrakoot, including the Ramghat and Nirmohi Akhara areas, prompting the district administration to intensify relief and rescue operations.
According to agency reports,the district administration has placed the area on high alert as the river continues to swell, raising concerns over low-lying areas and the safety of local residents and pilgrims visiting the prominent ghats.Chitrakoot Police have deployed drone cameras to monitor the flood-affected areas, assess ground conditions and keep track of the movement of water.


“Due to the rising water levels of the Mandakini River, a flood-like situation has arisen in the Ram Ghat and Nirmohi Akhada areas,” the police said in a post on X. The surveillance was carried out under the directions of Chitrakoot Superintendent of Police Arun Kumar Singh.


The District Magistrate said the situation was being closely monitored and remained under control. Authorities have stepped up precautionary measures in view of the rising water levels and the possibility of further impact on low-lying areas.“Considering the current situation at Ramghat, the district administration is taking all necessary precautionary measures. NDRF and SDRF teams are actively engaged in rescue operations at the scene. The administration is continuously monitoring the situation. Currently, the situation is under control,” the District Magistrate said.Residents have been advised to follow official instructions and avoid going near the river and ghats as water levels remain high.The District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police also personally inspected relief and rescue operations in the affected areas. Officials said essential supplies, including food, medicines and other necessary items, were being provided to people affected or stranded by the rising waters.National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams are also operating continuously in the affected areas. Rescue personnel are evacuating stranded pilgrims and other people from river and flood-affected locations and shifting them to safer places.
