China firmly opposes all forms of terrorism after TRF tagged by US

China has said that it firmly opposes all forms of terrorism and strongly condemns the terrorist attack that occurred on April 22, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian told a media briefing here on Friday in Beijing when asked about the US State Department's statement designating TRF as a Foreign Terrorist Organisation. In a guarded reaction, the spokesperson said, "China calls on regional countries to enhance counterterrorism cooperation and jointly maintain regional security and stability," he said.
The US designation of TRF was expected to have its echo in the UN Security Council, especially the 1267 Committee of the UNSC, an important counter terrorism mechanism that designates terrorists and their organisations. Several Pakistani terrorist groups and individuals are listed under the UN Security Council's 1267 sanctions regime, which imposes asset freezes, travel bans, and arms embargoes. These include LeT, Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), and Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD), along with key figures like Hafiz Saeed and Masood Azhar.
Meanwhile, Pakistan lashed out on Friday after the US designated The Resistance Front (TRF), a shadow group of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba, as a terrorist organisation, resorting to its usual script of deflecting blame and raking up the Kashmir issue. Islamabad, however, dismissed any link between the Pahalgam attack and Lashkar-e-Taiba, which it claimed is a "defunct organisation banned in Pakistan." In a statement, it said, "Pakistan has effectively and comprehensively dismantled concerned outfits, arrested and prosecuted the leadership, and deradicalised its cadres." The statement also rejected India's evidence-backed assertion of Lashkar’s role in the Pahalgam killings, calling it a bid to “misuse international forums to defame Pakistan.”
