In Chhattisgarh, at least 6 people were killed and several others injured after a local train collided with a stationary goods train near Bilaspur station on Tuesday evening. As per information, train No: 68733 Gevara Road–Bilaspur MEMU Local got dashed with a goods train on the Up/line between Gatora–Bilaspur at about 16:00 hours.

Rescue teams comprising railway officials, local administration, and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) rushed to the site immediately after the accident. An infant was among those rescued safely. Medical teams and ambulances have been deployed, with doctors treating the seriously injured inside the train itself due to the wreckage blocking quick evacuation.Bilaspur Collector Sanjay Agarwal said that the last bogie and first bogie of a local train and a goods train collided near Bilaspur. Four people have lost their lives in the accident. Rescue operation is underway.

Chhattisgarh Health Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal said five deaths have been confirmed so far. “Five people are seriously injured; three are stable, while two remain critical. Some passengers are still trapped inside the train, and efforts are on to rescue them using cutting equipment,” he said. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai expressed grief over the accident, calling it “extremely tragic.” In a post on X, he said, “I have spoken to the Bilaspur District Collector and instructed immediate relief and assistance. The state government stands firmly with the affected families.” He added that medical resources have been deployed and the state is closely monitoring the situation.
