Union Health Minister J. P. Nadda on Saturday reviewed the healthcare infrastructure and implementation of key central health schemes in West Bengal during a virtual meeting with state officials, while announcing the release of ₹527.58 crore under the National Health Mission (NHM) for the state.
The amount marks the first tranche of the Centre’s total NHM allocation of ₹3,505.59 crore earmarked for West Bengal for the current financial year.
The meeting focused on strengthening healthcare delivery systems and improving the implementation of flagship programmes, including the National Health Mission, Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) and the Prime Minister Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM).Senior officials from the Centre and the West Bengal government participated in the discussions, which also covered healthcare accessibility across urban and rural areas.
During the review, Nadda assured full support and cooperation from the Centre to enhance healthcare infrastructure and public health services in the state. He stressed the importance of coordinated efforts to improve medical facilities and ensure affordable healthcare access for citizens.
According to information,key discussions were also held on signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the implementation of Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY in West Bengal. The deliberations further covered immunisation, maternal and child healthcare, disease prevention measures and the delivery of quality healthcare services.
Nadda emphasised the need for effective implementation of the nationwide HPV vaccination drive and the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan in the state with greater public participation.Progress in strengthening health facilities under the PM-ABHIM framework and improving healthcare outreach was also reviewed during the meeting.
Both the Centre and the West Bengal government reaffirmed their commitment to collaborative efforts aimed at improving public health outcomes and expanding access to quality healthcare services across the state.
