The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Proclaimed Offender Gopal Das@ Bishal Paul from West Bengal, who was involved in 2021 post-poll violence murder case in West Bengal. The accused was later produced before the Competent Court of Calcutta on Tuesday, which remanded the accused to Judicial Custody. The agency said that the accused had been absconding since the registration of the FIR in 2021 and had not joined the investigation or trial. For his arrest, the CBI had announced a Cash Reward of fifty thousand rupees and arrested him based on human intelligence and technical inputs.He was arrested from Madhyamgram in North 24-Parganas and was allegedly involvement in the 2021 murder of BJP worker Abhijit Sarkar.
After completion of the investigation, the CBI filed charge sheet and supplementary chargesheets against 38 accused persons in 2021 and 2025, including Gopal Das as well as the then MLA of TMC, Paresh Pal and the then TMC Councillors, Swapan Samaddar and Papiya Ghosh, under different sections of IPC. The case is under trial in the City Sessions Court in Kolkata.
