MP: Indore Metro Priority Corridor-2 inaugurated

Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal on Saturday inaugurated the Indore Metro Priority Corridor-2 in the presence of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, marking a significant expansion of the city’s urban public transport network.Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Tokhan Sahu was also present at the inauguration ceremony.
According to agency reports, the newly inaugurated Phase-I (Reach-II) corridor covers approximately 11 km, extending from Super Corridor-3 to Malviya Nagar Chauraha and comprising 11 stations. The corridor has been developed at an estimated cost of Rs 2,850 crore.With the commissioning of the new stretch, the Indore Metro network now has 16 operational stations spanning approximately 17 km. The cumulative project cost of the operational network stands at around Rs 4,370 crore.

Speaking at the inauguration, Manohar Lal said the expanded Metro network would provide citizens with a faster, safer, more comfortable and reliable mode of transport. He added that the new corridor would strengthen connectivity between residential areas, commercial centres and employment hubs across the city.The Union Minister said Metro Rail was not merely a transportation project but an important instrument for economic growth, urban transformation and social inclusion. He emphasised that greater adoption of public transport could help address some of the challenges associated with rapid urbanisation.
Manohar Lal also highlighted the environmental benefits of expanding Metro connectivity. Increased use of public transport, he said, would contribute to reducing traffic congestion, fuel consumption and vehicular emissions.
The inauguration marks another step in the expansion of Indore’s mass rapid transit infrastructure and is expected to improve public transport connectivity across key residential, commercial and employment areas of the city.Manohar Lal congratulated the Madhya Pradesh government, Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited, engineers, officials, workers and other stakeholders involved in the development and commissioning of the corridor.
