In badminton, Kidambi Srikanth became the first Indian man to reach a World Championship final after beating Lakshya Sen at the BWF World Championships in Huelva, Spain on Saturday night. In a historic all-Indian men's singles semifinal, former world number one Srikanth defeated Sen by 17-21, 21-14, 21-17 in a thriller that lasted for one hour and nine minutes. Srikanth will now clash in the gold medal match against the winner of the second semi-final which is to be played between Denmark's Anders Antonsen and Singapore's Loh Kean Yew.
Earlier, 20-year-old Lakshya Sen became the first Indian male shuttler to secure a medal in his maiden world meet appearance as he made his way to the last-four round of the prestigious event. Sen had earlier overcome China's Zhao Jun Peng in a hard-fought quarter-final match while Srikanth cruised past Mark Caljouw, defeating the Dutchman in 26 minutes in the last eight. India are assured of at least a silver, as well as a bronze medal.This is the first time that India will have two medals in the men’s singles in the same edition of the badminton world championships.
