BSF detects freshly dug cross-border tunnel in J&K's Samba

In Jammu and Kashmir, BSF have found  a 150-metre-long freshly dug tunnel originating from Pakistan. Oxygen was being supplied in the tunnel through 265-foot-long pipes, which were found near the tunnel. It is the fifth cross-border tunnel detected in 18 months. Jammu BSF Deputy Inspector-General SPS Sandhu said, “Foiling the nefarious designs of Pakistan, the BSF detected a cross-border tunnel on Wednesday in Chak Faquira border outpost in Samba area. The tunnel detection was the result of  consistent efforts by the BSF troops during a fortnight-long anti-tunneling exercise carried out in the area. The tunnel is freshly dug out and is suspected to be about 150-metre long originating from the Pakistani side." 

The tunnel opening is about 2 feet wide and so far 21 sandbags have been recovered which were used to strengthen its exit. He said the opening is about 300 metres from the border outpost Chak Faquira and 700 metres from the last Indian village. Recently, the Jammu and Kashmir Police had said that the two Jaish-e-Mohammad suicide attackers, who attacked a CISF bus on April 22 near Sunjuwan military station, were picked up from Supwal area in Samba. The police had said that they were freshly infiltrated terrorists. Supwal area is close to Basanter river, a traditional route for infiltration, and Chaq Faquira lies close to it.

On April 27, BSF launched a massive anti-tunnel drive at the international border in Jammu. The drive was launched to thwart any possible infiltration attempts by Pakistan-backed terrorists via the international border in Samba. A special anti-tunneling drive has been launched in Jammu, Samba, and Kathua districts to determine if any tunnel exists across the border. BSF jawans deployed at the Jammu International Border are on high alert and participating in the anti-tunnel drive in a synchronized manner.
