According to information, among the major proposals are measures to recover encroached land, particularly from illegal settlers referred to as “Miyas,” implementation of a Uniform Civil Code, and initiatives to expand employment opportunities for the youth. The party has also pledged to further enhance connectivity, industrial growth, and social infrastructure.
Addressing the gathering, Sitharaman said the manifesto is built on what she described as “a decade of transformation” under BJP rule, contrasting it with the Congress’ governance record. She alleged that the Congress failed to prioritise long-term development in the Northeast, stating that its political approach lacked sustained focus on the region.Highlighting improvements in the state, she said Assam has witnessed significant progress in infrastructure and economic opportunities, adding that many young Assamese professionals are now returning from global careers due to better prospects at home. The Finance Minister also credited the BJP government for restoring peace and stability in the state, noting that development thrives in a secure environment. Referring to security measures, she said Assam had lived under the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act for over three decades due to past policies, but the BJP government has since ensured its withdrawal from most areas. Later, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that once the BJP returns to power, it will implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the state within three months. It will be implemented without disturbing the rights of the tribals and other ethnic communities of the state, the chief minister said on the sidelines of a programme to release the BJP's manifesto for Assam assembly polls on April 9. ''We are also bringing tough legislation against 'love and land jihad' and empower the District Commissioners of the state to enforce Illegal Immigrants Expulsion Act, 1950, whereby they are authorised to expel foreigners within 24 hours'', he said.
