Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will build a Bengal where religion and ability will be respected, and where everyone can experience development. Addressing a public meeting in Hoogly, he said that the formation of a BJP government in West Bengal isn't merely for a change in power, but for 'Ashol Poriborton'.
Accusing chief minister Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress government of siphoning funds provided for cyclone relief, PM Modi said, "The Central government has provided Rs 1,700 crore for relief work after Amphan to the TMC government in Bengal. The state government has only spent Rs 609 crore. The leftover Rs 1,100 crore has been siphoned off by TMC." He also accused the chief minister of stalling the availability of free healthcare treatment. "Lakhs of needy people in Bengal have not been able to receive free treatment worth Rs 5 lakh under Ayushman Bharat. This is the kind of hurdle Mamata Ji's government has formed between the people of Bengal and development," the PM said.
Raising questions over the lack of potable drinking water connections in the majority of Bengal households, PM Modi said that while the Centre has provided such connections to over 3.6 crore households since the launch of the scheme, the number in Bengal has only gone up from 2 lakh to 9 lakh."Out of 1-1.75 crore houses [in West Benagl], only 9 lakh have water pipeline. The way state government works, no wonder how many more years it'll take to deliver water to the poor. This shows that TMC doing injustice to 'Bengal Ki Beti'. Can they be forgiven?" PM Modi said.Attacking the Mamata Banerjee government for 'appeasement' politics, PM Modi said that "this kind of politics stops people of Bengal from performing Durga puja and visarjan"."People of Bengal will never forgive those who insult their culture for vote bank politics," he said.
