The Ram Mandir in Ayodhya is marking the second anniversary of the consecration of the idol of Ram Lalla on Wednesday, in accordance with the traditional Hindu lunar calendar, with elaborate rituals and a large gathering of devotees.The idol of Ram Lalla was consecrated at the temple on January 22, 2024, which fell on Paush Shukla Dwadashi as per the traditional calendar, during a grand ceremony led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Paush Shukla Paksha Dwadashi, also known as Kurma Dwadashi, is the 12th day of the waxing moon in the month of Paush. In 2025, this auspicious day was observed on January 11, while the anniversary rituals are being commemorated this week.
As part of the celebrations, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is scheduled to offer prayers to Ram Lalla on Wednesday and will serve as the chief ‘yajman’ (host) for the ‘Pran Pratishtha Dwadashi’ programme at the temple. He will also hoist a flag at the Annapurna temple, one of the seven temples located within the Ram Mandir complex. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will also attend the event.While the main programmes are being held on Wednesday and Thursday, the ‘Pran Pratishtha Dwadashi’ rituals will continue till Friday. Ceremonial observances at the temple complex have been underway since Saturday.

The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teertha Kshetra Trust has estimated that around five to six lakh devotees are expected to arrive in Ayodhya for Ram Lalla’s ‘darshan’ during the anniversary celebrations.In view of the anticipated heavy footfall, the issuance of VIP passes has been suspended till Thursday. During this period, devotees will be allowed entry for ‘darshan’ and puja only through the main entrance of the temple.
According to information,security and traffic arrangements across the temple town have been significantly tightened. Vehicle entry into Ayodhya has been restricted, with 36 designated parking zones created on the outskirts of the city. Holding areas have also been identified, where devotees may be temporarily stopped and later allowed for ‘darshan’ in a phased manner, depending on crowd conditions.A high alert has been issued in view of VVIP visits. Security personnel have been deployed not only at the Ram Mandir but also at other prominent religious sites, including Nageshwarnath, Hanumangarhi, Kanak Bhawan, Rampath and major ghats.Around 3,000 police personnel from outside the district have been deployed in Ayodhya. In addition, five companies of the Provincial Armed Constabulary and paramilitary forces have been stationed in the city. CCTV cameras and drone surveillance are being used to closely monitor the situation.Earlier, on November 25, Prime Minister Modi visited the temple for the Dhwajarohan (flag hoisting) ceremony, which marked the completion of the Ram Mandir.
