Arunachal integral to India, border peace vital for China ties: MEA

India has reiterated that Arunachal Pradesh is an inalienable and integral part of India and nothing can change this indisputable reality. Briefing the media in New Delhi on Tuesday, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that in matters relating to the border areas, India always emphasized in discussions with China that it considers these issues as most serious. He said that the maintenance of peace and tranquility in these areas is of the utmost importance for the country. The spokesperson said this was also reiterated at the recently held 36th Meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on India-China border affairs. At this meeting, the two sides engaged in frank discussions and reviewed the situation along the Line of Actual Control. The Indian side again underlined that maintaining peace and tranquillity in the border areas is essential for the overall development of bilateral relations. Both sides agreed to continue to use existing diplomatic and military channels, including the WMCC, local commander‑level meetings and other agreed mechanisms, to resolve outstanding issues and avoid misunderstanding and miscalculation along the LAC.

Replying to another query, Jaiswal highlighted that human rights violations being committed in Pakistan occupied Jammu and Kashmir and other parts of the neighbouring country. He called upon the international community to hold Pakistan accountable for its misdeeds, abuses and gross violations of human rights. On Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi meeting Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, Jaiswal said India has extended an invitation for a bilateral visit as well as for the BRICS outreach session which will be held in Delhi.
Replying to a query on defence pact between Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkiye, the spokesperson said India continue to closely follow developments in the West Asia conflict. He said that as far as this agreement is concerned, New Delhi is examining its implications both from the perspective of India’s national security and considerations of regional peace and stability. He stated that India remains fully committed to safeguarding its national interests and will take all necessary measures in this regard.
