Amit Shah hands over job letters to 60,244 UP Police constables

In Uttar Pradesh, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday distributed appointment letters to newly recruited 60,244 constables selected for the UP Police, at a function in Lucknow. Addressing the gathering, Amit Shah said, Uttar Pradesh, once considered the epicenter of riots, is now riot-free. The rule of law has been established here. He said, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the modernization of police forces began across the country. However, in Uttar Pradesh, that process was delayed by three years and from 2014 to 2017, the Government of India’s reform initiatives were nowhere to be seen in UP. It was only after Yogi Adityanath became Chief Minister in 2017 that the process of police reform began in the state. Shah says, "Out of the new recruits in Uttar Pradesh Police Force =today, more than 12 thousand are women... The reservations we provided for women have been fully implemented in Uttar Pradesh.... If I use the words of PM Modi, you are going to join UP Police in 'Amritkaal'."

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said, "Prime Minister Modi had emphasized that smart policing is the need of the hour. He outlined the principles of smart policing — Strict and Sensitive, Modern and Mobile, Alert and Accountable, Reliable and Responsive, and Tech-savvy. This is the kind of police force needed today."

The event marked the biggest-ever direct recruitment drive for civil police constables in the history of the state police, the Uttar Pradesh government said in a statement. Under the ‘Civil Police Direct Recruitment’ drive, as many as 48,196 male and 12,048 female candidates have been selected by the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board.
