In a sweeping political reset, all ministers in the Gujarat government have resigned ahead of a major cabinet reshuffle scheduled for Friday. Around seven to ten ministers are likely to be retained, while the remaining positions will be filled with new faces. The resignations of those being re-inducted will reportedly not be forwarded to the governor, sources said.
According to officials, the current Gujarat cabinet, which has 16 members, will be expanded to 26. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel remains the only member of the current cabinet to continue in office and is expected to meet Governor Acharya Devvrat later tonight to formally submit the resignations. The new cabinet will be sworn in at 11:30 am on Friday at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP national president JP Nadda.Party sources indicated that the new team will comprise a mix of young and experienced leaders to ensure caste and regional balance across communities.
The move followed a meeting at the chief minister’s residence on Thursday evening, attended by BJP national general secretary (organisation) Sunil Bansal and CM Patel. Bansal and Patel reportedly met each minister individually to convey the central leadership’s decision before collecting their resignations. Gujarat BJP president Jagdish Vishwakarma coordinated the process and oversaw the transition.Party insiders said the reshuffle is part of the BJP’s broader strategy to inject new energy and strengthen organisational presence ahead of upcoming political and civic challenges.
The development comes as the BJP prepares for municipal elections amid the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) rising influence in Gujarat, particularly in Saurashtra. AAP leader Gopal Italia, known for his role in the 2015 Patidar agitation, has been expanding his reach among Leuva Patidars — a key voter base for the BJP.Reports suggest that young BJP legislators, including Rivaba Jadeja, Jayesh Radadiya, and Uday Kangad, are among the frontrunners from Saurashtra to be elevated to cabinet positions. The oath-taking ceremony will be conducted by Governor Acharya Devvrat, who will administer the oath of office and secrecy to the new ministers. The expanded cabinet under Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel is expected to combine continuity with renewal as the BJP strengthens its state leadership ahead of the next electoral phase.
