Ahmedabad opens smart RTO with automated driving test facility

Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi on Thursday inaugurated a state-of-the-art Regional Transport Office (RTO) at Subhash Bridge in Ahmedabad, featuring an automated driving test track and integrated transport services designed to make public service delivery faster, more transparent and citizen-friendly.Developed by the Gujarat government's Ports and Transport Department, the modern RTO brings a wide range of transport-related services under one roof, offering a seamless experience for vehicle owners and licence applicants while reducing processing time and improving efficiency. The new facility houses dedicated counters for transport and non-transport vehicle services, new vehicle registrations, permits, fitness certification, blacklist-related work, driving licences, the DL and challan branch, RMA services, AMC tax payments and cash transactions.
Speaking at the inauguration, Sanghavi said the new office reflects the state government's commitment to delivering technology-driven, transparent and speedy public services."Our goal is to ensure that citizens receive faster, more efficient and transparent services. The new RTO office will make transport-related work, including driving licence services, more accessible and convenient," he said.A major highlight of the facility is the automated driving test track, which is expected to eliminate human intervention during driving tests and enhance fairness in the licence issuance process."The automated driving test track will bring complete transparency to the driving licence process, and only applicants who meet the required standards will be granted driving licences," Sanghavi said.

The Deputy Chief Minister also stressed the importance of close coordination between public representatives and government officials to ensure that the benefits of government initiatives reach every citizen."Public representatives and the administration must work together so that every eligible citizen can benefit from government services," he said.
Appealing to the public to safeguard the newly inaugurated infrastructure, Sanghavi said preserving government property is a shared civic responsibility."Preserving public property is the collective responsibility of every citizen," he added.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Minister of State for Urban Development Darshana Vaghela, Ahmedabad Mayor Hitesh Barot, Member of Parliament Dinesh Makwana, Ahmedabad BJP president Prerak Shah, several MLAs, Additional Chief Secretary Harit Shukla, Transport Commissioner Rajendrakumar, senior government officials and local residents.
