8 arrested in Delhi terror conspiracy, Bangladeshis among suspects

Security agencies have arrested eight suspects for allegedly plotting a major terror conspiracy in Delhi at the behest of Pakistan’s intelligence agency and Bangladesh-based extremist organisations, police sources said on Sunday.According to sources, six of the suspects were apprehended from different locations across Tamil Nadu and will be brought to Delhi for detailed interrogation. Two others were picked up earlier during follow-up action linked to the same case. Some of those arrested are believed to be Bangladeshi nationals. Six accused -- identified as Mizanur Rahman, Mohammad Shabat, Umar, Mohammad Litan, Mohammad Shahid and Mohammed Ujjal -- were detained from garment units across Tamil Nadu’s Tiruppur district, while two others were arrested from West Bengal, officials said on Sunday. In Tamil Nadu, police arrested two suspects from Uthukuli, three from Palladam, and one from the Thirumuruganpoondi area. They reportedly worked in the garment sector while hiding their real identities through fake Aadhaar cards.During searches, officers seized dozens of mobile phones and SIM cards from them. These are now being examined to determine how big the network is and whether there are any foreign connections.

The crackdown follows specific intelligence inputs about a suspected module planning subversive activities in different parts of the country. Preliminary investigations indicate that the group was allegedly in contact with handlers linked to Pakistan’s ISI and certain extremist outfits operating out of Bangladesh.During searches, investigators recovered dozens of mobile phones and SIM cards from the accused. These devices are currently being analysed to determine the scale of the network, possible foreign links and any operational plans.
Security was heightened on Saturday near key religious and heritage sites in Delhi after intelligence agencies flagged a possible terror threat. Areas around the Red Fort and Chandni Chowk witnessed increased deployment of police and paramilitary personnel as a precautionary measure.Sources further indicated that intelligence agencies had warned of a possible Improvised Explosive Device (IED)-based attack allegedly linked to operatives associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba. The suspected plot is reportedly being examined in the context of attempts to avenge a February 6 blast at a mosque in Islamabad, Pakistan.The latest alert comes barely three months after the devastating car explosion near the Red Fort on November 10, 2025, which claimed 15 lives and left more than 20 injured. The blast occurred when a car laden with explosives detonated near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort metro station, triggering secondary fires in multiple vehicles and sparking panic in the densely populated area.
