525 evacuated as Chhattisgarh rains trigger flooding in Gadchiroli

Around 525 people were evacuated to safer locations in Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli district after heavy rainfall in neighbouring Chhattisgarh triggered flooding in the Bhamragad area on Saturday, officials said.According to agency reports, the evacuation operation continued from Thursday afternoon until late at night under the supervision of District Collector Avishyant Panda and Tehsildar Kishor Bagde.
As water levels begin to recede, the situation in the affected areas is gradually improving. However, the administration continues to closely monitor the situation and has urged residents living along riverbanks and in low-lying areas to remain alert.

Authorities have also advised people to avoid routes where floodwater is still flowing.During the evacuation operation, an ailing girl from Binagonda Ashram School was safely rescued with the assistance of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). She was subsequently taken to the Laheri Primary Health Centre for medical treatment.The administration remains vigilant as floodwaters recede and continues to assess conditions in the affected areas.
