The Indian stock market closed the Thursday session on a flat note amid volatility. At close, the Sensex was down 0.39 points at 78,472.48, and the Nifty was up 22.55 points or 0.10 percent at 23,750.20. About 1599 shares advanced, 2219 shares declined, and 95 shares unchanged.
Adani Ports, Shriram Finance, M&M, Maruti Suzuki, SBI Life Insurance were the top gainers on the Nifty, while losers included Titan Company, Asian Paints, Nestle, JSW Steel, Grasim Industries.
On the sectoral front, buying was seen in the auto, energy, pharma, realty, PSU Bank, while selling was seen in the metal, FMCG, media. BSE midcap and smallcap indices ended flat.
Rupee Close:
On 26th Dec'24,the Indian rupee depreciated 10 paise to reach a new all-time low of 85.25 against the U.S. dollar in early trade on Thursday , dragged down by the unabated outflow of foreign capital amid increased month-end demand of the American currency.Positive sentiment in domestic equity markets failed to support the Indian currency as the greenback index remained elevated while crude oil prices were on upward move, forex traders reportedly stated.
