The high voltage drama with the Himachal Police "detaining" a 20-member Delhi Police team extended into the wee hours of Thursday, even after the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) granted transit remand for three Youth Congress activists arrested in connection with the "shirtless protest" at the AI Summit to New Delhi. On Wednesday, the Himachal Pradesh Police registered a kidnapping case against the Delhi Police personnel and "detained" their vehicles at the Shogi border near Shimla. This occurred while they were en route to the national capital with the three Youth Congress members in custody.
The three accused, along with the members of the Delhi Police, were taken to the residence of ACJM II Ekansh Kapil at 1.30 am after undergoing medical examinations at the Deendyal Upadhyay Zonal Hospital in Shimla late Wednesday night. Afterwards, they resumed their journey. The Himachal Pradesh Police had summoned the three for a fresh court appearance following their detention by Delhi Police from Shimla, which the state force deemed unauthorised for lacking prior notification.
The confrontation occurred near the Shoghi Barrier between Shimla and Solan, where Himachal Pradesh Police stopped a Delhi Police team that was transporting the detained individuals to Delhi. An argument between personnel from both forces continued for some time as Himachal authorities insisted that the suspects could not be taken out of the state without transit remand from a local court.
In an official press statement, the Himachal Pradesh Police said that on Thursday morning, Shimla Police received information that around 15–20 unidentified individuals in plain clothes arrived in vehicles and forcibly took away three persons staying at a resort in Mandli in Chirgaon of Rohru tehsil in Shimla. “These persons also took with them one vehicle belonging to the guests, which was a Thar. In addition, the DVR of the CCTV cameras installed at Chanshal Resort was taken away without providing any seizure memo or receipt. Thus, based on this information, the Shimla Police registered an FIR at Chirgaon Police Station and is taking action as per law,” the statement read.
