Crackdown continues: 97 anti-nationals arrested in Assam:CM Himanta

Two people have been arrested for allegedly being "anti-Hindu" from different parts of Assam following the Pahalgam terror attack, taking the total number of arrests to 97 so far, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Monday. In a post on X, Sarma said one person each was apprehended from Tinsukia and Nagaon districts. "Crackdown on anti-Hindu elements continues... 97 anti-national and anti-Hindu culprits behind bars now," he added. The person arrested in Tinsukia had reportedly shared objectionable content about Hinduism on social media, while the accused from Nagaon allegedly made derogatory comments about Lord Ram, Sarma stated.

Earlier, All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) MLA Aminul Islam was arrested on sedition charges for allegedly defending Pakistan’s role in the attack. Although he was granted bail, he was later detained under the stringent National Security Act (NSA).The state continues to maintain high alert as investigations and arrests linked to the Pahalgam attack remain ongoing.
