The Assam government is adopting a multi-layered strategy to empower women right from school to old age. Chief Minister Himant Biswa Sarma said this on Tuesday while launching the Mukhya Mantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan in Guwahati. Under this, the state government is providing Rs10,000 seed capital to women to boost self employment opportunities. 30 lakh women will get benefit of this scheme. At an event in Behali, 23,375 women received their first cheques, strengthening Assam’s rural economy through agriculture, livestock, and micro-enterprises.

He said that a Ration Card in Assam is a ticket to a secure future. Currently 70 lakh families in Assam have access to -Free rice, Orunodoi, Free treatment upto Rs 5 lakh and Subsidised dal, sugar and salt will also be given soon. Sarma announced that in September, the government will distribute another 6 lakh ration cards. The Chief Minister said, from Wednesday(today), our paddy farmers will get Rs 2,550 per quintal for their produce and mustard farmers will get Rs 6,450 per quintal for their produce, significantly boosting their income.
