The CBI on Friday arrested two absconders after 14 years. Both absconders were wanted in fraud cases.The first case, according to CBI, proclaimed offender Ms. Kavita was arrested from Haridwar, Uttrakhand, in a bank fraud case.The case against her was registered on March 30,2012. It was alleged that during the period from 10.08.2010 to 24.05.2011, the then Branch Manager, Punjab & Sindh Bank, Diwan Public School, Meerut in conspiracy with the other 46 persons mentioned in the FIR, sanctioned and disbursed 24 housing loans and 2 over draft against property loan amounting to Rs. 3.63 Crore on the basis of fake and fabricated identity and income proofs pertaining to the borrowers/guarantors. After completion of investigation, the CBI filed chargesheet on November 26, 2014 against 59 accused persons. Ms. Kavita was also one of the chargesheeted accused but she did not appear before the Court since beginning. She was declared Proclaimed Offender by the Court on April 14,2017.After arrest from Hardwar, Kavita was was produced before the Competent Court, Ghaziabad which remanded her to Judicial Custody till October 21.
The agency arrested Mohd. Ismail Sheikh, an accused in a counterfeit currency case who had been absconding for more than 14 years. According to the agency, Sheikh was involved in Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) cases and was using and exchanging Rs. 1000 denominations in Puducherry. He was apprehended during one such attempt at a fruit stall with fake notes totalling Rs19,000. Counterfeit notes worth another Rs1,71,500 were subsequently recovered from the guesthouse where he was staying.
According to the CBI statement,the accused Mohd. Ismail Sheikh was arrested in the case on January 18,2012 and was subsequently released on bail on July 02 in same year.However, after his release on bail, the accused did not appear before the Hon’ble Court, and was deliberately absconding and concealing himself with the intention of evading the process of law. The CBI team team traced him through technical leads and sustained efforts.
