Rajnath Singh felicitates team that summited 20 unclimbed peaks in Ladakh in 23 days

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday, September 25, 2026 welcomed the mountaineering expedition that accomplished a historic ascent in just 23 days on 20 such peaks above 6,000 meters in Ladakh, peaks that had never been climbed before. Describing the climbers as a source of inspiration for the youth, Singh said their successful ascents had set new benchmarks and would encourage young mountaineers across the country to pursue adventure and exploration while bringing pride to the nation.The peaks are located in the Chamser-Lungser, Gyama Nala and Chokula areas of the Ladakh Range, the Ministry of Defence said in a statement. The team of 20 highly skilled climbers from NIMAS was led by Col Ranveer Singh Jamwal. According to the defence ministry, the expedition showcased “exceptional planning, technical expertise, endurance and teamwork.”
“It reflected the nation’s capabilities in high-altitude mountaineering, strengthening its presence on the global mountaineering map,” the ministry said. After the successful expedition, the team members hoisted the national flag and the NIMAS flag on the peaks. This expedition has emerged as a remarkable achievement in the field of Indian mountaineering.
