Waheeda Rehman to be conferred with Dadasaheb Phalke Award

Waheeda Rehman, who made her debut 68 years ago and went on to act in cult classics such as "Pyaasa" and "Guide", was on Tuesday named recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for the year 2021, the government's highest recognition in the field of cinema."I'm doubly happy because it is Dev Anand's birthday. I think 'taufa unko milna tha, mujhe mil gaya'," Rehman told PTI on the birth centenary of her frequent collaborator.Her remarkable career has earned her several accolades, including the Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri, for her outstanding contributions to the film industry.Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur made the announcement on X.

The Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India's highest film honor, is a recognition given by the government to individuals who have made significant and enduring contributions to the world of Indian cinema.Waheeda Rehman is scheduled to receive the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in a ceremony that will take place later this year. It's worth noting that the previous recipient of this prestigious award was Asha Parekh, another veteran actress of Indian cinema who was recognised for her remarkable contributions to the film industry.
