Suraiya: The only most successful actress-cum-singer

Suraiya-Dev Anand’s love story was passionate but ended in tragedy. Despite their determination to be together, they faced fierce opposition from Suraiya’s family.


In a dramatic turn of events, the couple attempted to elope in 1949, only to be thwarted by Suraiya’s grandmother, who was a commanding figure in the family.
Dev and Suraiya experienced deep sadness - a couple attempted to defend their love, but ultimately surrendered.

Dev went on to continue his film career, while Suraiya remained unmarried by choice till her death. 
Their story has since become an emblematic tale of love’s strength as well as fragility.
