The influence of Gorakhpur is beginning to be seen in Bollywood. Till now, the youngest director, cinematographer and editor Shot by Inflict i.e. Prakarsh Tiwari, who is making a splash in music videos, has entered Bollywood under the banner of Black Hole Media. He is a graduate in Cinema Science from Asian Academy of Film and Television, Noida. Recently when he came to Gorakhpur, I had a long talk with him. Here are the main excerpts from that conversation - Prakash is the youngest director, editor and cinematographer.
Why did you think of making films and music videos your career, even though no one in your family is in this field?
This had already come to my mind when I was studying in the primary section. By the time I was in sixth or seventh grade, a computer had arrived in the house. I started trying my hand at that. I was in eighth grade when Google declared me the youngest online editor. After this I decided to work in this direction.
Why did you decide to move into offscreen genres instead of onscreen?
See, working onscreen requires a different kind of mentality. My goal has been to more closely represent the elements that are presented onscreen. I enjoy whatever work is done offscreen because from there comes the ability to create something onscreen. There is another clear reason for this. We have very little time. Currently I am 25 years old. If I don't concentrate on work from now on, it will be very difficult to do anything in the future. There is a lot of competition here. I know that we will not be able to get any support in this field from the family we come from. In such a situation, I have to start from now on.
Which artists have you worked for so far?
Have recently completed many big projects for big artists like Badshah MC. Everyone is familiar with the popularity of songs like Laado. This song has been played everywhere in wedding parties this year. It has received crores of views. More than 50 such songs are currently making waves in FM and Band.
Before this I have worked with the crew of Hanni Singh. He has also shot, directed and edited the famous rapper Lilgolu. This is a huge project in the world of music videos. In this, for the first time I got the opportunity to direct a unit of more than a hundred people. The entire shooting took place in Gurugram. Apart from this, he has done dishes for rapper Krishna. It has more than two lakh viewers. Bottoms up. Suno Youngusta Raga Kiya which has crossed three lakh views. 2017 Award Nominated Best Music Video Hidimba - Mirasi which is making waves at the moment. Along with Lilgolu, big projects like Gaddi, Love, Shaivya, Baazi, Youngsta, DSB 100 etc. have been completed.
What is your goal?
See, I want to work as a director and cinematographer in Bollywood. We have many young directors in Bollywood who have impressed us and there are offers to work with them. It is not appropriate to mention any name here right now. But very soon you will see the same me with a very good production.
Before you, there are many people from Gorakhpur who are in Bollywood, have you ever met anyone?
Yes, I know them all. Anurag Kashyap ji is a well-known filmmaker. Mike Pandey ji is a well-known photographer. Ravi Kishan ji is our MP. There are many other people from Gorakhpur who are doing very well in Bollywood. Like me, Anubhav Sinha's journey also started with music videos and today he is a big personality of Bollywood.
Who is there in your family, was there ever any opposition to going into this world?
My mother Dr. Archana Tiwari is a teacher. Father Sanjay Tiwari is a writer and journalist. My mother always encouraged me and still does. Father does not get that much time but I share everything with my mother and get accurate advice from her. Elder brother Utkarsh Tiwari is in Kanpur IIT. I have always been encouraged by that. He himself is a very good guitarist and singer.
In your view, how many leaders are there among the youth of Purvanchal?
too much. The artists here are now establishing themselves on a big scale. There are many people from places like Gorakhpur, Deoria, Varanasi, Lucknow whose popular albums have been released. The demand for his songs has also increased in Bollywood.
