The Stock market bounced back after a day of weakness. The key domestic indices on Thursday witnessed gains to close at around one per cent. The BSE Sensex closed near the 61,750 mark while the NSE Nifty settled above the 18,250 level. The Sensex rose 556 points, or 0.91 per cent, to finish at 61,749. The Nifty at the National Stock Exchange also surges 166 points, or 0.92 per cent, to end at 18,256.
In the broader market at the BSE, the Mid-Cap index rose 0.82 per cent and the Small Cap index gained 0.83 per cent. In the Sensex Index, which is a pack of 30 companies, shares of 22 firms rose while eight fell. Bajaj Finance was the top gainer as it surged 3.4 per cent followed by HDFC which climbed 2.6 per cent and HDFC Bank rose 2.1 per cent.
On the other hand, IndusInd Bank plunged one per cent, Nestle India slipped 0.8 per cent and Tata Motors fell 0.7 per cent. In sectoral indices at BSE, all sectors were positive except the FMCG sector down by 0.1 per cent. The Financial Services and Telecommunication both, indices gained 1.4 per cent each. The services sector surged 0.8 per cent. The overall market breadth was positive as shares of 2,244 companies advanced while those of 1,278 companies declined. A total of 118 shares remained unchanged.
