The domestic share market indices rebounded on Friday, gaining more than 1%, supported by value buying.The investor sentiment was aided by easing geopolitical concerns following indications that any potential US military action against Iran is unlikely before the midterm elections, helping crude prices moderate. At close,the Sensex closed 879 points higher or 1.23 percent at 72,472.33, while the Nifty gained 288.65 points or 1.30 percent to settle at 22,520.45.Persistent,Colgate,Hexaware Tech,Thermax and Tata Elxsi were the top gainers on the Nifty, while losers included Torrent Power, Schaeffler Ind,J. K. Cement,Tata Inv Corp and Escorts Kubota.On the sectoral front,the Nifty IT index outperformed peers, while banking stocks saw renewed interest with HDFC Bank, SBI, Federal Bank, and Canara Bank rising up to 2%. Conversely, the Nifty Oil and Gas index was the worst-hit sectoral index as crude prices softened.The Nifty Midcap 100 gained 1.46 percent, while the Smallcap 100 advanced 0.55 percent, according to agency reports.
Rupee Close:
On 9 Oct'26,the Indian rupee appreciated 16 paise to close at 96.72 (provisional) against the U.S. dollar on Friday, in tandem with its broader Asian peers, supported by a slight softening in the U.S. dollar and crude oil prices.Forex traders said the greenback weakened and crude oil prices eased following remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump that the U.S. would refrain from military action against Iran ahead of the November midterm elections. Moreover, likely intervention from the central bank offered a crucial cushion to the domestic unit.
