Piyush Goyal pushes unified commerce hub for faster trade services

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Friday unveiled a proposal to create an integrated commerce hub in Mumbai that will bring multiple offices and organisations under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry under one roof to enhance efficiency, cut administrative costs and streamline public services.
Addressing officials and stakeholders in Mumbai, Goyal said the initiative is in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Ease of Living” and “Ease of Doing Business”, aimed at making interactions with government departments simpler and more efficient for citizens and businesses. The minister said that at present, 20 offices belonging to 12 different organisations under the ministry are functioning from various locations across Mumbai, occupying significant premium commercial space. Under the proposed model, these offices will be consolidated, wherever possible, into a single centralised facility.

According to Goyal, the integrated hub will digitally connect stakeholders with 46 organisations operating under the ministry. The facility will also provide access to institutions that currently do not have dedicated offices in Mumbai, including bodies such as the Spices Board. He said the proposed centre will feature modern audio-visual infrastructure along with dedicated support staff to assist exporters, businesses and citizens with multiple services at one location. The minister noted that the initiative is expected to substantially lower administrative expenditure, improve operational productivity and simplify government processes for stakeholders.
Highlighting the environmental advantages of the plan, Goyal said the co-location of offices would help save energy, reduce fuel consumption and minimise travel requirements for both officials and the public. He added that the integrated commerce hub would also emerge as an important centre for export promotion activities, supporting the government’s export targets of USD 1 trillion this year and USD 2 trillion by 2030.Goyal said the structural integration of ministry offices and affiliated organisations is expected to improve coordination and accelerate trade facilitation efforts aimed at strengthening India’s global trade presence.
