Tata Moters and Maruti Suzuki witnessed gain in sales in 2021. Tata Moters even surpassed Hyundai Motor India to become the second largest-selling carmaker in India in December 2021. Maruti Suzuki India has witnessed a 13 per cent year-on-year growth in wholesales through 2021. The company dispatched 13.97 lakh units to dealers during the period as against 12.14 lakh units in the year-ago period. However, the company reported a four per cent fall in total wholesales in December 2021, which stood at 1,53,149 units. Sales of the company's mini cars such as Alto and S-Presso fell 35 per cent to 16,320 units as compared to 24,927 in the same month last year.
Sales of compact models such as Swift Celerio, Ignis, Baleno and Dzire declined 11 per cent to 69,345 units as against 77,641 cars in December 2020, the sales of mid-sized sedan Ciaz declined to 1,204 units as compared with 1,270 units in December 2020. Maruti's utility vehicles such as Vitara Brezza,S-Cross and Ertiga rose five per cent to 26,982 units during the period as compared to 25,701 vehicles in the year-ago month. Its exports saw a two-fold jump to 22,280 units as against 9,938 units in the corresponding month last year.
Tata Moters domestic car sales stood at 35,300 units last month, while Hyundai sold 32,312 units during the same period. The company sold 99,002 units during Q3 FY2022, the highest-ever quarterly sales numbers in a decade. Tata sold 3.31 lakh units in the 2021 calendar year, the highest-ever annual sales for the automaker. Tata's sales grew by 50 per cent in December 2021 when compared to 23,545 units sold in December 2020. Sales in Q3 FY2022 also increased by 44 per cent with respect to a year-on-year comparison. Tata's electric vehicles also garnered a strong response as sales picked up for the Nexon while the company also introduce the Tigor EV last year. The company sold 2,215 units in December 2021 and registered a whopping 439 per cent growth against 418 units sold in December 2020. The company sold a total of 5,592 EVs in Q3 FY22, as against 1,256 units in Q3 FY21, a hike of 345 per cent.
