India at global tech inflection point, says Ashwini Vaishnaw

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Monday said India must move quickly to take advantage of the ongoing global technological transformation, asserting that the country has a significant opportunity to emerge as a leader at what he described as a major global “inflection point” in technology.Speaking at the CII Annual Business Summit 2026, Vaishnaw said rapid advancements in emerging technologies are opening new avenues for India to strengthen its position in the global technology ecosystem.
The minister said India could witness the rollout of its first micro-LED production within the next 22 months, highlighting the country’s growing capabilities in advanced electronics and semiconductor manufacturing.“We are at a very important technological inflection point globally, and India has a major opportunity to lead in several emerging sectors if we move with speed and focus,” Vaishnaw said.
Emphasising the government’s push towards strengthening digital infrastructure, the minister said India has adopted a no-tax policy for data centres till 2047 to encourage large-scale investments in digital infrastructure and cloud ecosystems.He also said the country is developing three major subsea cable networks that will connect India with Australia, the United States, the Middle East and Europe, significantly improving global digital connectivity and data transfer capabilities.


According to Vaishnaw, the expansion of digital infrastructure will support India’s ambitions in artificial intelligence, cloud computing, fintech and advanced manufacturing sectors.The minister also urged industry bodies, including NASSCOM, to intensify efforts towards skilling and training people in artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies.
He said building a future-ready workforce would be critical for India to remain globally competitive in the fast-evolving technology landscape.Industry leaders attending the summit discussed opportunities emerging from AI, semiconductor manufacturing, digital infrastructure and advanced technology ecosystems, with a focus on accelerating India’s role in the global innovation economy.
