Hormuz will be US territory,Trump says he’ll hit Iran hard economically

US President Donald Trump on Friday said he would soon declare the Strait of Hormuz a territory of the United States, escalating his rhetoric over the strategically vital waterway that carries a significant share of global oil and LNG shipments. “After we finish defeating Iran, pretty soon I'll be declaring the Hormuz Strait a territory of the United States,” Trump said, without explaining how or when such a move could be implemented.Speaking in Garden City, Trump urged Americans to accept slightly higher gasoline prices as the cost of preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.
The remarks came as the United States and Iran struggle to reach a deal to end their nearly six-month conflict. Trump also told Fox News that Washington would hit Iran hard economically. Trump has maintained pressure on Iran over its nuclear programme while defending US military action against Tehran. He said he would never apologise for attacking Iran.

In response to Trump’s threat to claim the Strait of Hormuz, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi says the waterway will remain Iranian and that blockade enforcement will continue until the US accepts defeat. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says the Islamabad MoU marked an “end of the war, not a ceasefire”, pointing out that the US violated the deal and fighting resumed, leaving no 60-day ceasefire to extend.
