Newsinc24 Team A senior Iranian source said on Saturday the US had agreed to release Iranian frozen assets that were held in Qatar and other foreign banks, welcoming the move as a sign of "seriousness" in reaching a deal with Washington in talks in Islamabad. The United States has not made any public comments on the issue of unfreezing assets. The source, who declined to be named due to the sensitivity of the matter, told Reuters that unfreezing the assets was "directly linked to ensuring safe passage through Strait of Hormuz", which is expected to be a key issue in the talks.
The move is crucial as defreezing of assets was one of the two preconditions put forward by Iran to begin the talks with the US.
Meanwhile, The high-stakes talks between Iran and the US are set to be held in Islamabad on Sunday with Pakistan as the mediator. According to AFP, the talks are expected to be indirect and the two delegations will be sitting in separate rooms. Pakistani officials will shuttle proposals between them, mirroring the format used in earlier Oman-mediated rounds.
