In Ukraine, a school in the eastern Ukrainian village at Bilohorivka turned to rubbles following heavy bombing by Russian troops. The bombing killed two people and left 60 in the debris feared dead. President Volodymyr Zelenskiy confirmed late Sunday what many had feared but were hoping would not be true: 60 people who were sheltering in the Bilohorivka school that Russian forces bombed this weekend were killed in the attack.
The governor of the Luhansk region Serhiy Gaidai said that Russian forces dropped a bomb on Saturday afternoon on the school where about 90 people were sheltering, causing a fire that engulfed the building. Gaidai added the fire was extinguished after nearly four hours, then the rubble was cleared, and the bodies of two people were found. He said thirty people were evacuated from the rubble so far, seven of whom were injured. Agency could not immediately verify the report.The UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said he was "appalled" by the deadly attack, adding: "civilians must always be spared in times of war".Elsewhere in the country, Ukrainian fighters at a steelworks in the port of Mariupol have told the world they will not surrender to Russian forces and have appealed for help to evacuate their wounded.Russia has besieged the area for weeks, calling on defenders from the Azov battalion to lay down their arms.
