Trump warns Cuba, Mexico and Colombia could be next

Levelling allegations of drug manufacturing, harbouring cartels, and sending drugs to the US to “destroy American lives” -- President Donald Trump justify the action in Venezuela -- Trump warned that “something has to be done” about Mexico, Cuba, and Colombia.Speaking to Fox News on Saturday, Trump claimed Mexico was not being run by its President Claudia Sheinbaum, but by powerful drug cartels. “Something’s going to have to be done with Mexico,” he said. "They're running Mexico. I've asked her numerous times would you like us to take out the cartels. 'No, no, no, Mr President, no, no, no, please.' So we have to do something."

Trump made similar remarks about Cuba, calling it a “failing nation”. "I think Cuba is going to be something we'll end up talking about, because Cuba is a failing nation right now," Trump said. He also doubled down on his criticism of Colombia, alleging the country hosts at least three major cocaine factories. Referring to Colombian President Gustavo Petro, Trump said: “He’s making cocaine. They’re sending it into the United States. So he does have to watch his ass.”

Colombia was among the first countries to condemn the US strikes on Venezuela, calling them “state terrorism”. “All nations of the region must remain alert, as the threat hangs over all,” the Petro government said in a statement. Petro condemned the attack as aggression against all of South America and announced the mobilisation of troops along Colombia’s border with Venezuela to prevent a possible influx of refugees.
