Trump reiterates claim of stopping India-Pak conflict

U.S. President Donald Trump reiterated his claim that he helped prevent a full-scale conflict between India and Pakistan, asserting that the standoff “was probably going to end up in a nuclear war.” Trump also stated that during the hostilities, five fighter jets were shot down by the two nations.Speaking at a reception at the White House with members of Congress, Trump said, “We stopped wars between India and Pakistan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda. They shot down five planes and it was back and forth. I called them and said, ‘Listen, no more trade. If you do this, you're not going to be good’”,according to information. He added, “They’re both powerful nuclear nations and that would have happened, and who knows where that would have ended up. And I stopped it.”
Trump further claimed that his administration also took out Iran’s nuclear capability and mediated in conflicts between Kosovo and Serbia. He questioned whether U.S. President Joe Biden could have managed similar diplomatic interventions.Trump first mentioned last Friday that five jets were shot down during the India-Pakistan clashes. “Planes were being shot out of the air, five, five, four or five. But I think five jets were shot down actually… that was getting worse and worse, wasn’t it? These are two serious nuclear countries and they were hitting each other,” he said during a dinner with Republican senators, according to information.
Meanwhile, at a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) debate on “Multilateralism and Peaceful Settlement of Disputes,” Acting U.S. Representative Ambassador Dorothy Shea said the United States continues to work globally to find peaceful solutions. “We have seen U.S. leadership deliver de-escalations between Israel and Iran, between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda, and between India and Pakistan,” she said.
India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, highlighted in his UNSC statement the Pahalgam terror attack of April 22, which killed 26 tourists and was claimed by The Resistance Front, a proxy of Lashkar-e-Tayyiba. Harish stressed that states fomenting cross-border terrorism should face a “serious cost” and noted that India’s Operation Sindoor targeted terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. He underlined that India’s response was “focused, measured and non-escalatory,” and hostilities ended following Pakistan’s request for cessation of military activities. The U.S. has designated The Resistance Front as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) and a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT), reaffirming its commitment to counterterrorism and justice for the Pahalgam attack victims.
Despite Trump’s repeated claims of mediating the conflict, Indian officials have consistently maintained that no proposal for U.S. mediation was ever accepted and that de-escalation occurred through existing military channels between India and Pakistan, according to information.
