Trump fires Bondi amid DOJ turmoil, Tulsi Gabbard warned

President Donald Trump has fired Attorney General Bondi, and is replacing her with Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche. Bondi will be offered another position in the administration, CBS reported, citing sources. This comes after The New York Times reported about the president being frustrated with the AG over her handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files. Her removal signals potential shifts in Justice Department priorities and deepens political tensions over its independence.
Bondi’s year-long tenure saw her push Trump-aligned policies, remove career prosecutors linked to disfavoured investigations, and initiate probes into high-profile critics such as Jerome Powell and Letitia James. Her management of the Epstein files drew bipartisan backlash, leading to legislation mandating broader disclosures. Despite releasing millions of pages, she faced criticism over redactions and victim privacy breaches, culminating in a scheduled House Oversight Committee testimony.
Trump has reportedly polled cabinet officials on whether he should fire his director of national intelligence Tulsi Gabbard over her stance on the war in Iran. Gabbard is said to have attracted the president's displeasure after failing to condemn former counterterrorism chief Joe Kent following his dramatic exit last month, in which he quit his post and criticised the administration's decision to take the U.S. to war with Iran.
