Sudan: Indian among 56 killed in clashes between army, paramilitary

In Sudan, one Indian among 56 killed and more than 600 wounded in a fighting in the capital Khartoum raged into the early hours of Sunday after a day of deadly battles between paramilitaries and the regular army broke out. Explosions and gunfire rang out on the deserted streets of Khartoum after the paramilitaries said they were in control of the presidential place, Khartoum airport and other vital facilities.An Indian national identified as Albert Augestine has succumbed to his injuries on Sunday amid army-paramilitary clashes in Sudan, informed the Indian embassy in Sudan in a tweet.

It has been reported that Mr Albert Augestine, an Indian National working in a Dal Group Company in Sudan who got hit by a stray bullet yesterday succumbed to his injuries.

Embassy is in touch with family and medical authorities to make further arrangements.

On Saturday, the embassy issued an advisory to all the Indians in the embattled country to take “utmost precautions and stay indoors”. The mission also said that Indians planning to travel to Sudan should postpone their visit. he Sudan Doctors’ Committee said at least 595 people were wounded across Sudan. Sudanese air force urged people to stay indoors as it continued air strikes against bases of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

The international community has condemned the escalation of violence in Sudan’s capital Khartoum. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the situation in Sudan was “fragile” but insisted there was still an opportunity to complete a transition to a civilian-led government.The United Arab Emirates urged all parties in Sudan to exercise restraint, deescalate and work towards ending the crisis through dialogue. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned the outbreak of fighting and called for calm.
