Bangladesh observed 1971 Genocide Day, Criticised Pakistan

Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr. A K Abdul Momen has said that Pakistan junta committed the genocide in 1971 against the Bangladeshis in the then East Pakistan. It is shameful and unfortunate that no one has been put on trial, said Dr. Momen during a seminar organised on the occasion of genocide day on March 25 in Dhaka. Bangladesh observes March 25 as Genocide Day to mark the brutal killing of Bangladeshis in 1971 under the ‘Operation Searchlight’ launched by Pakistani army against its people.  Foreign Minister Dr. Momen expressed the hope that the next generation of Pakistan would acknowledge the crimes of 1971 and conduct trial of the perpetuators of the genocide in Bangladesh, reports the official news agency BSS.
Dr. Momen said that Bangladesh is continuing with its efforts to get March 25 recognised as the ‘Bangladesh Genocide Day’. He said that commemoration of 25 March as Genocide Day will not only be paying homage to the martyrs of 1971 but also creating awareness against genocide which happened in the world elsewhere or is still taking place anywhere in the world. Talking about the heinous act of the Pakistan army during the ‘operation searchlight’ starting on March 25, 1971, Dr. Momen said that it showed their clear intention to destroy certain sections of society and killing of individuals based on religion and political belief.
