Shakib Al Hasan’s home targeted hours after joining Hasina's presser

Hours after former Bangladeshi national cricket team captain and ex-Awami League MP Shakib Al Hassan appeared alongside ousted former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, an unidentified mob on Wednesday attempted to set fire to his ancestral house in the city of Magura Town. According to reports, a petrol bomb was hurled at Shakib’s ancestral residence in the Keshabmor area of Magura, leading to a small fire that was extinguished. The mob also vandalised Shakib’s house but fortunately no one was inside at the time of the incident.A video posted by Hasina's party, Awami League, showed firecracker-like sounds outside the 39-year-old cricketer's residence. Shakib is a former Awami League MP from the Magura-1 constituency.

According to police, several unidentified individuals threw bricks and stones at the house, shattering windows before attempting to set the property ablaze. No injuries were reported. The development came hours after Shakib joined Sheikh Hasina during the virtual press conference at the Foreign Correspondents’ Club in New Delhi. The former Bangladeshi PM also confirmed her plans to return to Bangladesh in December this year.
