Russia struck an apartment building and swarmed Ukrainian cities with drone strikes overnight on Wednesday. One person was killed and at least 33 injured as video footage showed a twin Russian missile strike on two tall residential buildings in Zaporizhzhia, a report said. In Rzhyshchiv, a riverside town south of the capital Kyiv, at least four people were killed, 20 injured and four still missing after a drone struck two college dormitories.During the night, drones swarmed the capital and swathes of northern Ukraine. The Ukraine military said it shot down 16 of 21 Iranian-made suicide drones.

Ukraine has maintained that there can be no peace unless Russia withdraws from occupied land. Moscow says Kyiv must recognise territorial “realities”, referring to Russia’s claim to have annexed nearly a fifth of Ukraine. After Ukraine recaptured territory, including Kherson, throughout the second half of 2022, Russia launched a massive winter offensive using hundreds of thousands of freshly called-up reservists and convicts recruited as mercenaries from jail.
