Russia investigates oil depot fire near Ukraine

Russia would investigate the cause of a large fire that erupted in early hours on Monday at an oil storage facility in the city of Bryansk close to the Ukraine border. Speculation is mounting that Ukrainian forces could be mounting a covert campaign targeting infrastructure crucial to fuelling the war effort. Separately, the governor of the Kursk region, a Russian area which borders Ukraine, said air defence systems had taken out two drones. A video purportedly of the incident is now being shared on social media.

The incident comes just days after a Russian airstrike destroyed an oil depot near Chuguiv, Kharkiv region in Ukraine, on April 22. Earlier this month, Ukrainian helicopters allegedly attacked a Rosneft fuel depot in Belgorod, Russia.
