Rubio acknowledges Indians contribution to US Economy

Washington has accepted the contribution that Indians have made to the U.S. economy. Over $20 billion has been invested in the U.S economy by Indian companies. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said this while during a press conference alongside Indian counterpart Dr S Jaishankar on Sunday in New Delhi. On the question of recent changes in J1 visa, F1, H-1B visa, Rubio said, the changes that are happening now, or the modernisation of our migration system into the United States, are not India-specific; it is global, it's being applied across the world. We have had over 20 million people illegally enter the United States over the last few years, and we've had to address that challenge, he said. Rubio said India and the US share several common interests and will continue to build upon their “solid and strong” ties.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said he had taken up with his US counterpart, Marco Rubio, the challenges that legitimate travellers face in securing a US visa. He made the remark as the duo addressed a joint press conference.

Both leaders later held delegation-level talks at Hyderabad House, with discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in areas such as trade, energy, and technology.
