Retired Pakistan Army general sent on three-day police remand

In Pakistan,an Islamabad district and sessions court on Monday granted the police a three-day remand of defence analyst and retired Lieutenant General Amjad Shoaib, following his arrest after a magistrate registered a case against him on charges of inciting the public against state institutions. Lt General (retd.) Amjad Shoaib, a prominent supporter of former prime minister Imran Khan, was detained by the Islamabad police from his residence in the federal capital after a first information report (FIR) was registered against him at the Ramna police station on Sunday by Magistrate Owais Khan.

The complaint said that the retired general — in an interview on a TV show, aired on Saturday passed statements that “incited the government officials and opposition from performing their government and legal duties”. The statement of the former military official, the FIR stated, is part of a "planned conspiracy" to weaken the country.
