US Speaker Nancy Pelosi, during meeting with president Tsai Ing-wen, said that the US fully supports Taiwan. Pelosi is met Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-wen at the presidential office in Taipei on Wednesday morning. US Speaker Nancy Pelosi received Taiwan’s highest honour. She was conferred with Order of Propitious Clouds in Taiwan. Pelosi has addressed Taiwan’s parliament, saying the US commends the self-governed island for being “one of the freest societies in the world”. The US House Speaker says she is honoured to be referred to as a “good friend of Taiwan” and said her visit to the self-governed island has three main purposes. “One is security, security for our people, global security. Two is economics, to spread as much prosperity as possible. And three is governance,” Pelosi told Taiwan’s deputy speaker. Pelosi also said she wanted to “increase interparliamentary cooperation and dialogue” and work out specific ways to do it with Taiwan. She added that new US legislation aimed at strengthening the American chip industry to compete with China “offers greater opportunity for US-Taiwan economic cooperation”.
