Operation Sindhu: 290 Indians evacuated from Iran arrive in Delhi

A special flight from Iran carrying 290 Indians, including students and religious pilgrims, landed at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport at 0300 hrs on 21st June, as part of Operation Sindhu, India's ongoing mission to evacuate citizens amid the escalating Israel-Iran conflict. Earlier, one flight arrived at 11:30 PM IST and was received by Secretary (CPV & OIA) Arun Kumar Chatterjee. A special evacuation flight from Ashgabat, Turkmenistan landed in New Delhi. With this, so far 517 Indian nationals from Iran have returned home under Operation Sindhu.

"We consider Indians as our own people. Iran's airspace is closed but because of this issue, we are making arrangements to open it for the safe passage of Indian nationals," Mohammad Javad Hosseini, the deputy chief of mission at the Iranian embassy said at a media briefing. "There will be two more flights on Saturday," he said.
The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association released a statement after the flight landed, saying, “Mahan Air evacuation flight from Mashhad, Iran, carrying 290 students, the majority of whom are from Kashmir, has landed safely in New Delhi. Heartfelt thanks to the Government of India, the Ministry of External Affairs, and all concerned authorities for their timely intervention and support. A great relief for families who had been anxiously awaiting their return.” 

Around 1,000 Indians, mostly students pursuing professional courses, were relocated from Tehran to Qom and then to Mashhad. These evacuees will be flown to Delhi on three Iranian-operated charter flights arranged by India, Hosseini said.
