No deal on ending war: Trump, Putin says talks as constructive, useful

The talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Donald Trump in Alaska concluded after more than three hours on Friday. Russian President Vladimir Putin described his talks with US President Donald Trump in Alaska as positive and constructive. "Our talks were held in a respectful and constructive atmosphere. They were quite detailed and useful," he said at a joint news conference. The Russian president said he and Trump had reached an "understanding" on Ukraine and warned Europe not to "torpedo the nascent progress."

US President Donald Trump said that he and Russian President Vladimir Putin made "very productive" progress but reached no final agreement after a nearly three-hour summit in Anchorage, Alaska, focused on the war in Ukraine. "There were many, many points that we agreed on," Trump said at a joint press conference with Putin. "I would say a couple of big ones that we haven’t quite got there, but we've made some headway. So there's no deal until there's a deal." "And there are just a very few that are left. Some are not that significant. One is probably the most significant, but we have a very good chance of getting there. We didn’t get there." he added.

The meeting was aimed at negotiating a resolution to the war in Ukraine. The talks commenced on Friday at Elmendorf Air Force Base, Alaska’s largest US military installation, which historically served as a Cold War surveillance site monitoring the Soviet Union.
