Trump says he'll 'have to take a look' at deporting Elon Musk

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday said he would "take a look" at the possibility of deporting Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, deepening a fierce and personal feud between the two. When asked by reporters about removing Musk from the country, Trump replied, "I don't know, we'll have to take a look," fuelling speculation amid ongoing hostilities.“We might have to put DOGE on Elon,” Trump told reporters as he left the White House for a trip to Florida, reported the Associated Press. “DOGE is the monster that might have to go back and eat Elon.” DOGE is the Department of Government Efficiency. After taking the oath as president, Trump put Musk in charge of DOGE to cut government spending.

Trump's comment came shortly after he launched a scathing attack on Musk over government subsidies and the electric vehicle mandate. In a post on Truth Social, Trump claimed that Musk "may have to close up shop and head back home to South Africa," arguing that the billionaire had received "more subsidies than any human being in history".“No more Rocket launches, Satellites, or Electric Car Production, and our Country would save a FORTUNE. Perhaps we should have DOGE take a good, hard, look at this? BIG MONEY TO BE SAVED!!!” Trump posted.

This was after Musk said that he would launch a political party if and when Trump's ‘One Big Beautiful Bill’ passes.Musk, in response, posted on his platform X, "I am literally saying CUT IT ALL. Now." In a series of posts, the Tesla CEO threatened to form a third political outfit, the 'America Party', declaring that both the Democratic and Republican parties had failed. "It is obvious with the insane spending of this bill that we live in a one-party country - the PORKY PIG PARTY!!" he wrote.
