Modi receives Seychelles' highest honour, holds talks with President

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday held bilateral and delegation-level talks with Seychelles President Patrick Herminie at the State House in Victoria as part of his three-day State Visit to the island nation, aimed at further strengthening the longstanding partnership between India and Seychelles. The Indian delegation included External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal.

PM and President Herminie reaffirmed the longstanding India-Seychelles partnership, and discussed cooperation in the areas of development partnership, health, infrastructure, economic cooperation, maritime security and people-to-people ties. The two leaders also witnessed the exchange of 19 MoUs and agreements to deepen collaboration in the fields of healthcare, agriculture, digital payments, maritime cooperation, development partnership, space cooperation, legal cooperation, and capacity building. They reaffirmed shared commitment to peace, prosperity and sustainable development in the Indian Ocean region.
Both sides launched the commemorative logo marking 50 years of diplomatic relations between India and Seychelles. The leaders also witnessed the virtual ground-breaking of the Professional and Technical Education Centre in Seychelles.  The Seychelles delegation comprised Vice President Sebastien Pillay, Principal Minister and Minister for Fisheries, Agriculture and the Blue Economy Wallace Cosgrow, Minister for Foreign Affairs and the Diaspora Barry Faure, Minister for Finance, Economic Planning, Trade and Investment Pierre Laporte, along with other senior officials. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred the 'Guardian of the Blue Horizon', Seychelles' highest presidential distinction for leadership in environmental conservation and sustainable development, during his visit to the island nation.

Receiving the honour, PM Modi dedicated the award to all nations working collectively to tackle the growing challenges of climate change. The latest recognition adds to a series of international honours acknowledging the PM's contributions to sustainability and inclusive development.
