Khawaja Asif: Pakistan’s relations with Afghanistan not good

Pakistan has accepted that his country’s current relations with Afghanistan are not good. Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, referring to the upcoming visit of the Islamic Emirate’s Foreign Minister to India, claimed that Afghanistan has never had friendly relations with Pakistan since its establishment. He also emphasized that Islamabad must recognize its true friends in foreign policy. He stated: “This does not worry me, but as a politician and a Pakistani, I say that we must identify our friends and enemies. We must look at history; Afghanistan was the last country to recognize Pakistan. In these 77 or 78 years, Afghanistan has had neither friendship nor brotherhood with us.”
Meanwhile, India’s former Minister of State for External Affairs M J Akbar, referring to the Islamic Emirate’s Foreign Minister’s visit to New Delhi, called it an important step in improving bilateral relations with Kabul. Akbar stated: “It's a very important visit because it shows that the world is reaching out to Prime Minister Modi and to India. Nobody expected that relations with the Taliban would reach a point where we would actually have an official visit from their foreign minister. It's a very significant development.” Although Afghanistan has had good relations with India over the past four years, Kabul and Islamabad’s relations have consistently experienced ups and downs.
